Well, I missed posting before the Steam Summer sale was out but here goes… It’s that time of year already? That’s right, time for Steam to lever more money out of my wallet. As per usual, I convinced myself and my wife that I’ll definitely get through this new collection of games I didn’t need. Did I really need to add nineteen games to my backlog? How dare you. Honestly at this point, Valve doesn’t even need to try. I see discount, I click buy. I’m pretty sure I mentioned it last sale, but through the year I only really keep an eye on historical low prices outside of these big sales. That’s unless someone obviously points something out for me. I could be more observant, I could. But I won’t. Well, let’s rip through my most recent round of poor financial decisions, even if it’s after the fact.

As usual, I recommend not limiting your seasonal game buying to just Steam. Other legitimate stores like Green Man GamingFanatical or Loaded typically run competing sales and it’s always worth a quick look to compare prices.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Probably the biggest game I’ve bought since Baldur’s Gate 3, this sale I picked up Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I’ve heard the performance on the Steam Deck is so-so, but as someone in the reservation queue for a Steam Machine, I think I’ll have this covered. I’ve heard good things. Now, I’ve definitely had my issues with Far Cry over the years. I’ve liked some, hated others and overlooked the rest. Blood Dragon is still my top Far Cry. I have Far Cry 3 sitting there ready to go, but Far Cry 4 was a few dollars so I had to add it to my collection. Had to? You heard me. I’ve recently been making my way through the Resident Evil remakes and I’ve just finished up with Resident Evil 3 which was actually unreal, despite what I’ve heard about it. Resident Evil 4 is on the horizon, so what better time to pick up Resident Evil 5? I grabbed the Gold Edition. Whether I use the extras or not, I hear it’s basically an action game take on survival horror. It’s hard to gauge if they’ll run well on the Deck. Even with ProtonDB, the community can give a mixed bag when it comes to performance.

Far Cry 4

Somehow, Hotline Miami wasn’t already in my library which feels like a crime against my own gaming history. This is fast, brutal, neon-soaked top down carnage and was basically made for handheld sessions between nap times. Prior to this sale? Swing and a miss. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been recommended Underrail as a classic Fallout fan. I intend on giving it a fair crack eventually, but I don’t know a lot about it beyond the description of ‘deep, punishing isometric RPG‘. That description alone is intriguing, but I’ve also been recommended the Wasteland series in the past and that didn’t click with me… maybe I’ll give it another go.

Underrail

Well, if you’ve read any of my previous sale haul posts, you know what’s coming. It wouldn’t be a proper sale without an avalanche of point and click adventure games added to the pile. I picked up and was disappointed with The Longest Journey. I then may have gone a little overboard. This sale, I picked up: *huge inhale* Beyond The Edge of Owlsgard, Chronicle of Innsmouth, Midnight Saturn, A Golden Wake, Elroy and The Aliens, Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet, Unforeseen Incidents and Lamplight City. I also picked up, which somehow wasn’t already in my library, the entire Blackwell series. Heh, welcome to one of the dustiest shelves in gaming history… probably.

The Blackwell Bundle

This summer sale has done some real damage to the wallet but in no way will I be complaining. I cleared a few off my wishlist and there’s a pretty solid mix of new and old here. Some newer, bigger action games and enough point and click games to keep me busy for probably the next ten years… or until the next sale. While this years Steam Summer sale has been and gone, if you’ve been sitting on any of these or stacked your own wishlist with them, I’m sure there’s a deal out there. Again, have a look at Green Man GamingFanatical or Loaded throughout the year. Maybe just don’t go as overboard as I did. Or do, I’m clearly not qualified in any way to give that kind of advice.
