G’day! Welcome to Dad with a Deck. I’m pretty new at this whole blogging/website thing, so bear with me.
As advertised, I’m simply just a Dad with a Steam Deck. I’ve tried a bit of everything gaming-wise over the years. I moved from Consoles to PC, PC to Mac and then into Android gaming. Finally, I’ve landed with handheld gaming on the Steam Deck. Out of all of these gaming methods, the Steam Deck has been the most versatile and most enjoyable. It has impressed me the most by far out of everything available. The power and portability of this thing is simply insane. Not to mention, the incredibly handy quick resume feature. To the other Dads out there, I’m telling you the quick resume feature alone is worth it. Did I mention this thing can also be a whole-ass desktop computer? But I’ll get into that more at a later date.
Why did I start this blog? I’ve been looking for a steady creative outlet to break up the monotony of every day life for a little while now. I thought about just setting up a hobby desk to build various LEGO sets, but that’s surprisingly fucking expensive. So, that option was cut. I’ve always enjoyed writing. Whether I’m actually good at it or not remains to be seen. So I decided maybe it’s time to start writing about something I’ve been passionate about basically my whole life: video games. So, here we are. Mainly, I aim to share my own personal gaming opinions, insights and experiences gaming on the Steam Deck. For the most part these will be Steam Deck specific. I will also share game reviews and include some guides and gear recommendations. Along with these, I’ll share some hints and tips I’ve picked up along the way.
Am I an expert? Nah, not even close. I’m just a regular bloke who is decent enough with tech and enjoys video games. Typically, I enjoy reading original content from regular every day people over the big major outlets. So I thought I may as well start contributing some of my own. I’m going to try to keep things pretty simple and straightforward overall. Guides may get fairly in-depth, but I’d like to keep most things fairly easy to follow.
I do also want to share a long-standing personal belief of mine in regard to gaming. This is something I feel is important. I believe in playing what you like, how you like. Think your retro games look best in 4:3? That’s great. Like to utilise your screen real estate and play them stretched? Cool, man. Like to throw a filter over the top? Power to you. Enjoy newer games using FSR? Fantastic. The great philosopher Jackie Moon once said “everybody love everybody.” Please, be kind to each other. Do not gate-keep content, especially if someone else would enjoy it. Also don’t shit all over other people’s experiences or potential experiences. There’s just no reason for it. We all like different things and have different styles and we all need to accept that. I’m more than OK with that.
Well, I think that’ll do for my first post. I plan on posting semi-regularly when there’s time available in our busy lives.
Welcome, and enjoy.
